universal egg

Universal Egg Records

The label only started life at the beginning of 1993 and has already established a reputation for innovation, astounding variety and trouser-trembling bass sound. The Limited Edition Collectors Series and various specials have featured heavily in DJ play lists and Zion Train's own live set. Universal Egg's first LP/CD release features the best of the Collectors Series - infamous, bass-end floor fillers to the last.

EGGYO1- Follow Like Wolves Remix e.p.

Released on 1st April '93 this 12" featuring mixes by Club Dog, Shakra Sound and In-Fusion alongside the original cut, was charted by several DJs two appearances in the NME's prestigious VIBES chart.

EGGY02 - Trancemasters e.p.

This first release, in August '93, in the label's Collector's Series of Zion Train's collaborations. Electro pioneers Dorset's own Trancemasters deliver a dose of seriously twisted acid. 'Getafix In Dub' was especially well received in Northern Europe.

EGGY03 - Zion Train meet The Knights Of The Occasional Table.

The 11th of the Eleventh 1993 saw the release of this collaboration 12" with NME favourites and all round weirdos KOTOT. Featured heavily on John Peel's Radio One show. "....another wonderfully warped romp from Zion Train - one of the most prolific crews in London." - Melody Maker.

EGGY04 - Zion Train meet Diatribe

Released on 14th Feb '93 the 12" was another immediate success. Described as "perfectly strange, fathoms deep tribal dub" by the NME this track is a fine taster for the forthcoming Zion Train produced Diatribe LP.

EGGY 05 - Zion Train meet Conscious Sounds

Reached the independent chart Top Twenty immediately on release. Conscious Sounds have established a reputation all their own for dub in the classic style. This EP is no exception as all concerned dub themselves silly. A limited edition release in the Collectors Series the first run sold out and the repress won't last long.

EGGY 06 - Trancemasters - Trancepeak e.p.

Released together with Eggy 05 and went into the independent charts at the same time two places below. This new Trancemasters offering also featured heavily in DJ charts and sold fast.

EGGY O7 - Triangle e.p. - Sounds From The Ground

The first Universal Egg release from Sounds From The Ground and a whole new kettle of fish. The title track defies description "epic, sound track, ambience" was one attempt, but it is clear that Sounds From The Ground bring a whole new aspect to the Universal Egg sound.

WWLP/CD7 - Siren

The best of the collectors series, the best of the Zion Train live set. Made No.9 in the independent charts immediately on release in September. Already on a third repress.

Universal Egg has established itself as one of the most adventurous and esoteric new labels in the UK. As the Collector's Series develops and other one off releases establish the label's sound a gathering tribe of devotees is assembling, as a recent two hour special on Kiss FM London's renowned Coldcut show and various European showcase nights prove. The label has several new releases planned including "Trancepeak II", the as yet untitled Diatribe LP and an LP/CD from Sounds From The Ground.
